The Lord’s “Litmus Test”
According to Webster’s Dictionary: It was in the 14th century that scientists discovered that litmus, a mixture of colored organic compounds obtained from lichen, turns red in acid solutions and blue in alkaline solutions and, thus, can be used as an acid-base indicator. Six centuries later, people began using litmus test figuratively. It can now refer to any single factor that establishes the true character of something or causes it to be assigned to one category or another.
The Lord’s “Litmus Test” is revealing our true colors from the inside out by what kind of “Galatians 5:22-23 Fruit” we bear. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.
The Lord’s Litmus Test, tests your Faith.
James 1:2-4 NKJV
My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.
True Colors
This phrase dates back to the 1700s. It refers to the color of the flag which every ship is required to fly at sea. Pirates used to deceive other ships by sailing under false flags so that they would not excite suspicion. In a time of crisis, everyone’s true colors are being revealed. The true colors of what one is really like. Everyone’s true nature & character is coming into the light for all to see. Proverbs 27:19 tells us that “As in water face reflects face, so a man’s heart reveals man.”
The Blinders & The Blindfolded
Horse Blinders
Blinders cover the rear vision of the horse, forcing it to look only in a forward direction and keeping it on track, to reduce the chances of the horse being spooked.
There’s so much going on around us, the Lord is asking us put on His Blinders so we will not be “spooked”, but be enabled to run this race of life with the faith of Hebrews 12: We are to rid ourselves of every obstacle trying to entangle us, looking only at Jesus, the originator and perfector of our faith, removing weariness from us, so we will not lose heart.
Phil 3:13-15 NKJV
Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. Therefore let us, as many as are mature, have this mind; and if in anything you think otherwise, God will reveal even this to you.
The Blinded
Many eyes are covered by the blindfold of deception of Corinthians 4:4; their minds have been blinded by the god of this age, with unbelief.
2 Corinthians 4:4 NKJV
whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them.
The Hosea Blindfold of Justice & Mercy
God wants us to wear His Blindfold of Justice & Mercy
Hosea 12:6 So you, by the help of your God, return; Observe mercy and justice, And wait on your God continually.
The Coat of Many Colors or The Traitor’s Turncoat?
The Coat of Many Colors
In Genesis 37:3, we read of Joseph’s Tunic of many colors, representing God's “Light of many colors”, His Favor, Glory & Righteousness.
I’m reminded of the lyrics of this song:
“I AM COVERED OVER WITH THE ROBE OF RIGHTEOUSNESS THAT
JESUS GIVES TO ME, GIVES TO ME,
I AM COVERED OVER WITH THE PRECIOUS BLOOD OF JESUS
AND HE LIVES IN ME, LIVES IN ME,
WHAT A JOY IT IS TO KNOW MY HEAVENLY FATHER LOVES ME SO,
HE GIVES TO ME, MY JESUS,
WHEN HE LOOKS AT ME, HE SEES NOT WHAT I USE TO BE,
BUT HE SEES JESUS, JESUS”
Isaiah 61:10 NKJV “I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, My soul shall be joyful in my God; For He has clothed me with the garments of salvation, He has covered me with the robe of righteousness . . .”
The Turncoats
God is exposing today’s Turncoats for all to see. The modern day “Luke 6:16 Judas Traitors”, the 2 Tim 3: traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God.
The Lord is asking the Lovers of God:
“Can you find it in your hearts to extend my mercy that triumphs over judgement and pray for the Turncoats to repent, turn to Me and be saved”?
